Poland...Chojnice (Kashubian/Pomeranian: Chònice, German: Konitz) is a town in northern Poland with approximately 40 447[1] inhabitants (2011), near the famous Tuchola Forest and many other natural reservoirs. It is the capital of the Chojnice County. Chojnice has been a part of Pomeranian Voivodeship since 1999, as it was during the period 1945-1975; during the time span 1975-1998 the town belonged to Bydgoszcz Voivodeship.

Leo J. Winkel, 78, of Dunn Road, died at 11:30 a.m. Sunday in the St. Joseph's Medical Center. Mr. Winkel was retired from the O'Brien Paint Co. Born Oct. 23, 1906, in Koenitz, Germany, and lived in the South Bend area most of his life. On May 1, 1929, in South Bend, he married Felice Stefanski. She survives along with a daughter, Alvina Helak of South Bend; two sons, Donald W. of York, Pa., and Richard of South Bend; 10 grandchildren; and two half brothers, Ben Sobieski of Michigan and John Sobieski of South Bend. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Little Flower Catholic Church and burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the St. Joseph Funeral home, where a parish rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
