Charles Boleslaw Maternowski
Charles Boleslaw Maternowski, 82, of 11411 Champlain St. Chicago, a former resident of South Bend, died at 2:20 p.m Tuesday in Roseland Hospital, Roseland, Ill. after a brief illness. He was the former proprietor of Maternowski Market in South Bend. Born Oct. 22, 1892 in South Bend the son of a pioneer Polish family, he lived here for 70 years before moving to Chicago. He was married July 20, 1915 to Stella Kalamaja who died March 15, 1952. On June 11, 1962 he married Josephine Wedrychowski, who survives. Also surviving are three sons, John and Charles Maternowski of South Bend and Dr. Chester Maternowski of Grand Rapids, three daughters, Mrs. Esther Kromkowski, Mrs. Lucille Gasko and Mrs. Marie Czarnecki, all from Out Bend; 34 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Lottie Kapsa of Bell, Calif and Mrs. Helen Jankowski of South Bend. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 9 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Funeral Home in South Bend. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday St. Casimir's Catholic Church with Rev. George H. Szymanowski C.S.C., paster, officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Maternowski was a member of M.R. Falcons Nest No. 4 Memorial contributions may be made to the U.s Catholic Conference Campaign for Human Development, 1312 Massachusetts Ave. N.W. Washington, D.C. South Bend Tribune 25 June 1975
