On July 19, 1886, Rev. Valentine Czyzewski, C. S. C., Rector of St. Hedwig's Catholic Church in South Bend, Indiana, married John Maternowski and Agnes Bucholz. (image of original county marriage record, familysearch.org)

John Maternowski, 36, died of typhoid on Oct. 11, 1895 and was interred in Cedar Grove Cemetery. (St. Hedwig Catholic Church interment record)

On Oct. 17, 1899, Rev. Eligius Raczynski, Pastor of St. Casimir's Catholic Church in South Bend married Agnes Maternowski and Martin Gzeyskawick (sic). (image of original county marriage record, familysearch.org)

The 1900 and 1910 census records of South Bend indicate that Agnes Grzeszkowiak (sic) had been born in Poland, had married twice, and that the children from her first marriage included (in birth order) Wladyslawa aka Lottie, Boleslaw, and Joseph Maternowski.
