Esther C. Kromkowski
July 31, 1916 - Aug. 22, 2000

South Bend - Esther C. Kromkowski, 84, of South Ironwood Drive, died Tuesday in St. Paul's Retirement Community. Survivors include three daughters, Ann M. Szymanski of South Bend, Margaret Counselman of Cockeysville, Md., and Marian Posner of Suttons Bay, Mich.; two sons, John of Baltimore and Francis of Helena, Mont.; two sisters, Marie Czarnecki and Lucille Gasko, both of South Bend; and two brothers, John Maternowski of South Bend and Chester Maternowski of Grand Rapids. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Adalbert Catholic Church. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today in St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Road, and a prayer service will be at 4 p.m.

Esther C. Kromkowski
July 31, 1916 - Aug. 22, 2000

Esther C. Kromkowski, 84, of South Ironwood Drive, South Bend, Ind., formerly of South Meade Street, died at 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 22, in St. Paul's Retirement Community, South Bend. She was born on July 31, 1916, in South Bend, and was a lifelong area resident. She was a member of the Felician Sisters Auxiliary, the Roasry Sodality, and was a retired member of the St. Cecelia choir, all of St. Adalbert Catholic Church. She was also a member of the M.R. Falconette Club. Mrs. Kromkowski was married on Oct. 20, 1936, in South Bend, as Esther C. Maternowski, to Aloysius J. Kromkowski, who died on Nov. 17, 1996. She was also preceded on death by her brother, Charles Maternowski and by her grand-daughter Rachel Kromkowski.
She is survived by a daughter, Ann Marie, and a son-in-law, Ralph Szymanski of South Bend; a daughter, Margaret, and son-in-law, Skip Counselman of Cockeysville, Md. a daughter Marian, and son-in-law Matthew Posner of Suttons Bay, Mich.; a son, John, and daughter-in-law, Nancy Kromkowski of Baltimore, Md., a son, Francis Kromkowski, and daughter-in-law, Carol Kopec of Helena, Mont.; grandchildren, Aimee (Mike) Saindon of Helena, Anna (Kevin) Morley of Helena, Michael Szymanski of South Bend, Keith (ann) Szymanski of Greenwood, Ind., Kim (Chris) Tordi of Mishawaka, John David (julie) Kromkowski of Charlottesville, Va., Charles (Anne) Kromkowski Charlottesville, Stephen (Kellie) Kromkowski of South Bend, Mark Kromkowski of Chicago, Ill. Katherine Counselman of Baltimore, Christina Counselman of Baltimore, Mark Counselman of Chicago, Esther Posner, Claire Posner and Ellen Posner, all of Suttons Bay; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marie Czarnecki of South Bend and Lucille (Bernard) Gasko of South Bend; and by two brothers, John Maternowski of South Bend and Dr. Charles (Alaine) Maternowski of Grand Rapids, Mich. Family and friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 24 in the ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, South Bend, where a prayer service will be said at 4 p.m. Services will be held at 10 p.m. on Friday Aug. 25, in St. Adalbert Catholic Church with entombment to follow in the Resurrection Gardens at the St. Joseph Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society or to St. Adalbert Catholic Church.
