Mildred Piekarski Dankowski
May 6, 1930 - December 6, 2009
Mildred Piekarski Dankowski, 79, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 7:43 p.m. Sunday, December 6, 2009 at Memorial Hospital, South Bend. She was born on May 6, 1930 to the late Joseph and Josephine (Trela) Czerkies in Chicago, IL, and has lived in South Bend for 60 years, coming from Grand Junction, MI. Along with her parents, one sister; and one brother also preceded her in death. Mrs. Dankowski retired in 2001 from the University of Notre Dame, where she worked in Food Services. She was also retired from the South Bend Tribune, where she worked as a Tribune Delivery Driver. In 1979, as Mildred Piekarski, she married Ray Dankowski. She is survived by her loving husband, Ray; four sons, Thomas (Nancy) Piekarski of South Bend, IN; Michael Piekarski of Cleveland, Ohio; Kenneth (Gale) Piekarski of Niles, MI; Ronald Piekarski of New Carlisle, IN; one step-daughter, Linda Kantorowski of South Bend, IN; three grandchildren, Alison, Andrew, and Patrick Piekarski; three step-grandchildren, Jason (Tima) Harwood; Scott Hudak; Jennifer Hudak; and one step-great-granddaughter, Kaley Kubiak. Graveside Services will take place at 11:30 a.m. Friday, December 11, 2009 at Cedar Grove Cemetery on the Campus of Notre Dame, with Rev. Msgr. Michael Heintz officiating.
