SOUTH BEND - Raymond Dankowski, 89, passed away unexpectedly at 5:45 pm on Friday, April 20, 2012, in Memorial Hospital. Raymond was born on October 18, 1922, in South Bend, to the late John and Verna (Sosnowski) Dankowski. Raymond was also preceded in death by a brother, Harry Dankowski, on October 27, 2007. Raymond was married to his former wife, Henrietta in 1947. She survives along with a daughter, Linda Kantorowski; grandson, Scott Hudak; his beloved granddaughter, Jennifer Hudak; his very special great-granddaughter, Kaley Kubiak; and stepchildren, Ken (Gale) Piekarski, Tom (Nancy) Piekarski, Mike Piekarski and Ron Piekarski. Raymond graduated from Washington High School. He honorably served his country in the US Army. He attended Tanners System of Barber College and worked in the mail room at the South Bend Tribune for 49 years, belonging to the 25-Year Club. He enjoyed bowling at Turners, golfing, going to the casino, traveling, horse racing, and working in the yard. After he retired, he worked for Blue Jays Nest Florist and was a delivery driver for Aucilla Plastics Inc. The family extends a special "Thank You" to Dr. John Galea, Dr. Imraan Ansaarie, and the I.C.U. and the 7th floor staff in Memorial Hospital. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, April 25, 2012, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4:00 pm. A funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Thursday, April 26, 2012, in the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Liver Association, 39 Broadway, Suite 2700, New York, NY 10006.
