Peter Banicki
Peter Banicki, 79, of 517 S. Warren St., died at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in St. Joseph's Hospital after a brief
illness. he retired in 1959 from the Songer Manufacturing Co., after working there 37 years. Born May
23, 1894 in Hastings, Minn., he had lived most of his life here. On June 30, 1919, he married Wanda
Leda, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Benedict M. of South Bend, four grandchildren; two
great-grandchildren; a brother, William of South Bend and a sister, Mrs. Catherine Beauchamp of
South Bend. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the Kaniewski and Sons Funeral
Home. Services will be at 9 a.m. Monday in St. Adalbert's Catholic Church, Rev. Eugene
Kazmierczak, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. He was a member of the West
Side Democratic Club. a parish wake service will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home.

He attended school only to the fifth grade because his father Martin died and left a family of eight children. At age twelve Peter worked at the Oliver
Plow Works. Despite this unfortunate circumstance Peter had a great respect for education and intellect. He retired from the singer Corp. in S. B as a highly
skilled wood finisher.
