[N13444] Carl Winkel (b. 23 Jul 1878, Duza Cerkwica, Sępólno County, Poland; d. 25 May 1935, Howard, Cass, MI); m. Catherine (Katherine) Swetwa/Switwala, who was born about 1882 in Germany. Carl appears to be among the first of the Winkel family to arrive in America; according to the 1910 Census, he arrived first somewhere around 1895. Travel records show him arriving in Baltimore, Maryland in May of 1902. Carl settled in South Bend, St. Joseph, IN, where his children were born, then after the death of his father, relocated to Howard, Cass, MI, where he died 25 May 1935. Catherine’s date of death is as of yet unknown.
