KINGSFORD HEIGHTS - Charles W. Smoroske, 65, of 364 Fairmont Road, died at 12:30 p.m. Friday in Sun City Hospital, Sun City, Fla. Mr. Smoroske was retired from LaPorte Community School Corp. He was born Jan. 26, 1923, in South Bend. On Aug. 1, 1981, in LaPorte, he married Margaret Freese, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Rebecca Swoveland and Jan Shonkwiler, both of South Bend; two sons, David of LaPorte and Donald of Mishawaka; a stepdaughter, Gloria Applegate of LaPorte; two stepsons, William R. Freese and Raymond A. Freese, both of LaPorte; 20 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was a member of LaPorte Assembly of God, American Legion of Indianapolis and Veterans of Foreign Wars of Ruskin, Fla. He was a World War II veteran. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in LaPorte Assembly of God. Burial will be in Pine Lake Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Monday in Haverstock Funeral home.
