Mrs. Margaret L. Freese Smoroske, 86, of La Porte, Ind., died at 3:50 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2007, at La Porte Hospital in La Porte, Ind. She was born April 11, 1920, in La Porte, Ind., to the late Samuel Gallo and the late Frances (Callahan) Gallo. She had been a lifelong resident of the La Porte area. Margaret Freese Smoroske asked the Heavenly Father to forgive her of her sins and asked Jesus into her heart and truly repented. Her heart's desire was to have everyone love, honor and serve the Lord so all would be with the Lord and her throughout eternity. She was a member of La Porte Assembly of God Church, La Porte Assembly of God Church Sams, Kingsford Union Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary for 32 years, and VFW Post 1130 Auxiliary. Mrs. Smoroske was employed by La Porte School Corp. for 15 years as a school cook at Kingsford Heights Elementary School. On Jan. 1, 1937, in La Porte, Ind., she married Clifford Freese, who preceded in death Dec. 11, 1974. She remarried Aug. 1, 1981, in La Porte, Ind., to Charles Smoroske, who preceded in death Dec. 2, 1988. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Gloria D. (Dr. Dale) Applegate of La Porte, Ind.; two sons, William R. (Barbara) Freese of La Porte, Ind., and Raymond A. Freese of La Porte, Ind.; twelve grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Loretta Howard of Florida. She is preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; one granddaughter, Saundra Dickie; two sisters, Louise Kotoske and Mary Pease; and two brothers, Joseph Gallo and Paul Gallo. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, Ind., where the family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, March 23, 2007, and Saturday from 9 a.m. until time of the service. Funeral service will be at Haverstock Funeral Home at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 24, 2007, with Rev. Jeffrey A. Hines officiating. Interment will be at Pine Lake Cemetery in La Porte, Ind.
