Victorine Vanderbeke
March 17, 1916 - June 9, 2014
MISHAWAKA - Victorine Leona Vanderbeke (VanHoecke), loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away June 9, 2014, in Phoenix, Arizona, at the age of 98. A native of Mishawaka, Indiana, Vicky was the daughter of Belgian immigrants, Henry VanHoecke of Hansbeke, Belgium, and Madeline (VanDen-Borre) VanHoecke of Bassevehslam, Belgium. Vicky was the eldest of five daughters, Elsie (Biebuyck), Dorothy (Sabade), Lucy (Hillaert) and Mary Jane (Mittleman). The "VanHoecke Girls" were all raised in Mishawaka and attended St. Bavo Church as children and young adults. Her youngest sister, Mary Jane Mittleman, survives. In 1941 Vicky married Alphonse Vanderbeke, who preceded her in death in 1993. They raised three children, Patricia (Paul) Goodwin of Banning, CA, Joseph (Barbara) Vanderbeke of Phoenix, AZ, and Linda (Russell) Turner of San Diego, CA; two granddaughters, Jodi Heath of Ft. Wayne, IN, and Kate Schmitt of Kirchen, Germany; a grandson, Robert Vanderbeke Turner of San Diego, CA; and six great-grandchildren, Joseph and Jonathan Heath, and Olivia, Madeline, Zoe and Benjamin Schmitt. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Vicky worked as an office assistant at Wheelabrator Corporation in Mishawaka for 25 years, where she was a member of the Juliana Club. She was also a member of the BK Ladies Auxillary; she enjoyed traveling, needlework, and her grandkids. She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Bavo Church. Visitation will be held Friday, June 13, from 3:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at Hahn Funeral Home, 505 West 8th Street, Mishawaka, where a wake prayer service will be held at 6:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, June 14, at 10:00 a.m. in St. Bavo Church, 511 West 7th Street, Mishawaka, with Rev. Barry England officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Bavo Church, 511 W. 7th Street, Mishawaka, IN 46544.
