SOUTH BEND - Robert H. DeLater, 85, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away at 1:47 p.m. Sunday, March 16, 2014, at The Hearth at Juday Creek. Robert was born on July 20, 1928, in South Bend, to Henry and Jenny (Wlodarski) DeLater and was a lifelong resident. He retired in 1990 from RACO where he was employed for 35 years. On November 11, 1966, he married Eleanor Cichowicz, who preceded him in death on September 29, 2009. He is survived by two daughters, Patricia (Mike) Bittles of Omaha, Nebraska, and Christine (Peter) McCollum of South Bend, Indiana; two grandchildren, Heather and Alexander; one sister, Sharon DeLater of South Bend, Indiana; two brothers, Richard DeLater of California and Ronald DeLater of South Bend, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews. A Catholic Funeral Service will be held at 10 A.M. Friday, March 21, 2014, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 North Bendix Drive. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 until 8 P.M Thursday in the funeral home, where a Rosary will be prayed at 5 P.M. Robert was a member of Holy Cross Parish. He enjoyed fishing at his lake house on Harwood Lake in Michigan. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the nurses and aides at The Hearth at Juday Creek for their compassion and kindness.
