March 18, 1955 - March 23, 2014
MISHAWAKA - Thomas J. Nowacki, 59, passed away at home on Sunday, March 23, 2014, after his battle with cancer. Tom was born on March 18, 1955, in South Bend, to Elgin W. and Gertrude (Wolkiewicz) Nowacki. He was preceded in death by his mother on December 4, 2009, and his father on June 25, 2010. On October 17, 1981, in South Bend, he married the former Bethel Gronning. Surviving are his loving wife, Bethel; a daughter, Kylie Nowacki of Mishawaka; a sister, Pat (Don) DeRue-Nemeth of South Bend; and a brother, Robert (Rozanne) Nowacki of Granger. Tom was an EMT. He worked for McGann Ambulance, Mishawaka EMS and the Indiana Department of Homeland Security as an EMT. He loved airplanes, cars and enjoyed camping. He was a master diver with the City of Mishawaka for the search and rescue team. He was also very close with his wife's family; he was a wonderful brother-in-law and adored his nieces and nephews. Tom never complained. His positive attitude with his sickness showed just how brave of a man he was. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Michiana Hematology and Oncology, the Center for Hospice and to Dr. Bilal Ansari for all of the kindness and care that was shown to Tom and his family. Family and friends may visit on Friday, March 28, from 5 to 8 p.m. in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Funeral services will be on Saturday, March 29, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home, with The Rev. John Blodgett officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to either Hospice Foundation Supporting Center for Hospice Care, South Bend-Elkhart-Plymouth, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545; or to the Mission Fund at First Baptist Church, 53953 County Road 17, Bristol, IN 46507.
