MISHAWAKA - Gertrude A. Nowacki, 84, of Mishawaka, IN, passed away at 3:15 a.m. Friday, December 4, 2009, in Fountainview Place of Mishawaka. Gertrude was born on November 23, 1925, in South Bend, to Adam and Anna (Kapsa) Wolkiewicz. On November 23, 1946, in St. Adalbert Church, as Gertrude A. Wolkiewicz, she married Elgin W. Nowacki, who survives. Also surviving are her children, Patricia (Don Nemeth) DeRue-Nemeth of South Bend, IN, Robert (Rozanne) Nowacki of Granger, IN, and Thomas (Bethel) Nowacki of Mishawka, IN; four grandchildren, Kenneth (Jessica) Nowacki, Craig (Shelley) Nowacki, Thomas (Jamie Black) DeRue Jr. and Kylie Nowacki; and five great-grandchildren, Ethan and Dawson Nowacki, Lucas and Shawn Nowacki, and Brecken DeRue. Gertrude was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Thomas DeRue Sr., two sisters and four brothers. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 7, 2009, in St. Adalbert Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a parish Rosary will be prayed at 4:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Sisters of the Holy Cross Ministry with the Poor Fund.
