SOUTH BEND - Joseph V. Lenczewski, 82, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away 8:45 AM Tuesday, September 25, 2012, at the Ironwood Health and Rehabilitation Center, South Bend. Joseph was born on December 2, 1929, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to the late Joseph M. and Jessica (Kowalski) Lenczewski, and had been a resident of the South Bend area since 1964, coming from Milwaukee. On May 4, 1957, in Milwaukee, he was united in marriage to Darlene (Bertram) Lenczewski, who survives. Joseph worked in construction for many years and was a skilled lather. Joseph proudly served our country in the United States Army, serving two tours of duty, and was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, and the Army Occupation Medal (Japan). Joseph was a faithful member of Saint Casimir Catholic Church, South Bend, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Mishawaka Council and was a volunteer for St. Vincent DePaul. Joseph enjoyed reading the Bible, fishing, golfing, and helping people. Most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Joseph is survived by his wife of 55 years, Darlene Lenczewski; five daughters, Sandra (Dan) Weaver of Mishawaka, Carrie (Richard) Stanton of Punta Gorda, FL, Dawn Lenczewski (Ron Hicks) of Union Mills, Lisa (Julius) Linner of Mishawaka and Laura (Danny) Szabo of South Bend; two sons, Michael (Brenda) Lenczewski and John Lenczewski (Jennifer William), both of South Bend; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. One great-grandchild, Joshua, preceded him in death. Military graveside services will be held at 12 noon on Friday, September 28, 2012, at Sumption Prairie Cemetery, South Bend. Chaplain Joe Emmerth will officiate. Palmer Funeral Home - River Park and Southlawn Cremation Services, are assisting the family with arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
