Bronislaus J. Lapkiewicz (July 9, 1918 -- Oct. 26, 2003)

Bronislaus J. "Bert" Lapkiewicz, 85, of S. Sheridan Avenue, South Bend, passed away at 2:10 p.m. on Sunday, October 26, 2003, in Hospice House. He was born on July 9, 1918, in South Bend, to Ignatius and Helen (Hoffman) Lapkiewicz, who preceded him in death. A brother, Edward, is also deceased. On October 18, 1941, in South Bend, he married Caroline Cyndrowski, who passed away on June 16, 1984.Surviving him is a daughter, Judith (Robert) DeWinter of South Bend; two sons, Thomas E. (Frances) Lapkiewicz and John P. (Pam) Lapkiewicz, both of South Bend; seven grandchildren, Deborah (Mike) Cseh, Douglas DeWinter, Paula Lapkiewicz, Jonathan Lapkiewicz, Susan Lapkiewicz, Karen Lapkiewicz, Cheryl Lapkiewicz; and seven great-grandchildren. Loving and compassionate, dear friend for the past 19 years, Florence Rafalski. Bert retired in 1980 after 43 years as a machinist with White Farm-Oliver Plant. He was a World War II Navy veteran. Bert was a member of St. Hedwig Church, American Legion Post 357, St. Joseph Men's Club, Ushers Society, Holy Name Society, Golden Cluster, Central Polish American Organization. Visitation will be today, October 28, 2003, from 2 to 8 p.m. in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road. A Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, October 29, 2003, at 10 a.m. in St. Hedwig Church. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. The family would like to thank the Hospice House for their kindness and compassion. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County.
