SOUTH BEND - Joseph A. Horvath, 73, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away at 12:55 a.m. Monday, September 7, 2015, in his home. Joseph was born on September 29, 1941, in South Bend, and was a lifelong resident. He retired from McCormick Flavor Group, where he was employed as a Service Machine Operator. He had also worked for Goshen Tree Service in the 1960s, Gitner Meat Packing, Al's Butcher Block, and ARA Vending. On October 7, 1961, in South Bend, he married Evelyn "Evie" Higginbotham, who survives. Also surviving are his children, Cindy A. Horvath of New Carlisle, Indiana, Joseph A. Horvath of South Bend, Indiana, Kenneth (Tina) Horvath of Marion, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Miranda K. Horvath, Joseph F. (Rebecca Brabham) Horvath, James (Kaitlyn) Peppers, Cyndi Horvath, Faith Horvath, Cameron (Marie) Taylor and Zachary (Destanie) Taylor; eight great-granchildren; and three sisters, Margaret Horvath of South Bend, Indiana, Sandy (Richard) Breden of Elkhart, Indiana, and Brenda Horvath of Florida. Joseph was preceded in death by one sister, Nancy Peppers; and two brothers, Kenneth and Ricky Horvath. Funeral services will take place at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 11, 2015, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive. Burial will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. A visitation will take place from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, and from 12 noon until 1:00 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Joseph was very patriotic. He was an amateur astronomer and a proud member of the Michiana Astronomical Society. He was a four-time champion Little League Coach at Warren Township Little League, and also a Notre Dame sports fan. Joseph was a "cowboy at heart" and loved to travel the West. His family was everything to him. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter #1027, P.O.
