South Bend – Clarence A. Soens, 78, of Wimbleton Court, died at 7:45 p.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Medical Center. Mr. Soens retired as director of purchasing for the former wheelabrator-Frye Corp., Mishawaka, after 39 years of service. He was born May 9, 1913, in Mishawaka and was a lifelong area resident. On May 9, 1942, in South Bend, he married Anne Zubritz. She survives with a daughter, Susan M. Kyle of Granger; two grandsons; a sister, Virginia Roble of South Bend; and three brothers, Charles and Arthur both of Mishawaka, and Ernest of Roswell, N.M. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Granger, Knights of Columbus Council 1878, Mishawaka, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 360, Mishawaka, and B.K. Club, Mishawaka. He was a veteran of the World War II. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Little Flower Catholic Church. Entombment will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hickey Funeral Home, 17131 Cleveland Road, where a parish wake will be at 3 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church Building Fund.
