He died on 8 Jul 1947 in South Bend, St. Joseph County, Indiana. His obituary reads, "Valentine J. Delinski, Sr. -- Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday in St. Hedwige's Catholic church for Valentine J. Delinski, sr., aged 65, of 903 West Dunham street, formerly of the South Bend police department, who died Tuesday morning in his home after an illness of six months. Rev. Boleslaus J. Sztuczko, C.S.C., pastor, will officiate and burial will be in St. Joseph Polish cemetery.
Mr. Delinski retired from the police department Dec. 3, 1939, after 28 years and four months of service. He served as detective, detective sergeant, desk sergeant and patrolman. From 1915 until his retirement he served as a trustee of the police pension fund.
Born in South Bend, Feb. 4, 1882, he lived here all his life. On Sept. 16, 1912, he was married in St. Hedwige's church to Laura Zytowski, who survives. Also surviving are four sons, Aloysius, Crumstown, this county; Edward, Harry and Valentine, jr., all of South Bend; four daughters, Mrs. Harriet Steiner, Mrs. Adeline Przybysz, Mrs. Lucille Wargo and Mrs. Marie Marnocha, all of South Bend; three sisters, Mrs. Joan Wiertel, Chicago; Mrs. Sophie Barczykowski, South Bend, and Mrs. Frances Kaminski, Roseland, and 16 grandchildren.
Friends may call in the residence until the time of the funeral. Mr. Delinski was amember of the Woodmen of the World and Fraternal Order of Police." He was a Sergeant of Detectives, South Bend Police Department in South Bend, St. Joseph County, Indiana. , , , , His obituary says, "Mr. Delinski retired from the police department Dec. 3, 1939, after 28 years and four months of service. He was also known as William Delinski. , Name used in city directories. This name was also used in the obituary for his first wife, Josephine.He was also known as Big Bill Delinski. Nickname used by Kenneth Delinski in e-mail 8 April 2000. Evidently how he was known at the South Bend Police Department where he was a Detective Sergeant. He was also known as in Walenty. She was baptized on 29 Apr 1883 in St. Hedwige's Church, South Bend, St. Joseph Co., Indiana. His parents' names are given as Andrea and Maria Jzdrzcjczak. The godparents are listed as Anna Parys and Martinuus Wencel. I have this individual down as a son. In the 1910 US Census, a JENNY is listed, age 26 (would be born c1884), widow KARNSKI with three children: Frank, Leon and Clara. Jenny's occupation is given as a seamstress at the shirt factory. Could Jan be female? Jan is a female per Kenneth Delinski e-mail 8 April 2000. He remembers her and calling her Aunt Jenny.
