NEW CARLISLE - Irene H. Kaplon, 96, passed away at 5:25 am on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 in Hamilton Grove Health Care Center. Irene was born January 21, 1915 in Poland to Joseph and Lottie (Polian) Stempin. On June 13, 1931 in South Bend, Irene married Peter T. Kaplon and he passed away on August 7, 1957. She was also preceded in death by a son, Edwin in 1986; brother, William Stempin; sisters, Mary Porte, Caroline Boosi and Josephine Sutek; and two great-grandsons, David Bonnaventura and Rodney Harris. Irene is survived by daughter, Loretta Graczyk of South Bend; sons, Edmund (Marlene) Kaplon and Richard (Kathleen) Kaplon all of New Carlisle; and grandchildren, Gail (Michael) Bonnaventura of Florrison, CO, Daniel Graczyk of Colorado Springs, CO, Alan (Rosemary) Graczyk of Florrison, CO, Dennis Kaplon of South Bend, Deborah Morris of South Bend, Diane Lips of South Bend, Kevin (Nancy) Kaplon of New Carlisle, Kimberly (James) Gozzola of New Carlisle, Dawn (David) Maugel of Wakarusa, and Keith (Candace) Kaplon of Middlebury; 22 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren. Irene was a parishioner at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church where she was involved with the Rosary Society and the Polish Club. She was the owner of Kaplon Nursery and a member of the Women's Business Club, Moose Club of South Bend and American Nurserymen Association. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday, September 18, 2011 in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., where a Rosary will be prayed at 3:00 pm. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Monday, September 19, 2011 in the Funeral Home. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
