[N33426] Shirley Faye Chrapliwy
nee Minix
August 12, 1945 ~ October 16, 2022 (age 77)

Shirley Faye Chrapliwy passed away peacefully at Beacon Hospital on Sunday, October 16, 2022. Shirley was born on August 12, 1945, to the late Bill and Margie Minix. Shirley is survived by her daughter Shelley (Randy) Huff; step-sons, Bobby Gerencser and Tommy (Trish) Gerencser; daughter-in-law, Loressa Chrapliwy; granddaughters, Morgan (Andrew) Rossway, Robyn (Andy) Haluda, Loryn (Nick) Newgent; grandsons Justin (Mo Brady) Huff, Cory (Amy) Huff, Marty (Kala) Gerencser, Joshua (Brianna) Gerencser and Jacob Gerencser; and thirteen great-grandchildren. Shirley is also survived by her sisters, Donna Minix and Barbara Brock; her brother, Roger Minix; brothers-in-law, Jim (Diane) Gerencser and Dave (Sally) Gerencser; sisters-in-law, Pat (Jim) Childs and Sue (Steve) Gerencser; and numerous nieces and nephews who she helped raise over the years. She was preceded in death by her loving partner of over 43 years, Robert (Bob) Gerencser, and her son, Thomas A. Chrapliwy. Shirley was a fun loving, vivacious woman who started working at 13 years of age. She was a car hop at the A & W Root beer stand in South Bend, IN. She held jobs in customer service over the years at Sears, Lou Ann’s, Burger Dairy, and Big Wheel. She went back to receive her C.N.A. degree at Ivy Tech when her kids were in school. This led to a career where she loved working with Planned Parenthood in the late 70’s and early 80’s. She took some time off after her kids were out of the house, but eventually grew bored and needed some social stimulation. She went to work for Kroger and the highlight of her day was getting to know all the customers and their families. She gained many lifelong friendships and looked forward to going to work every day. Throughout her life Shirley found joy in music and dancing, crocheting, plants - all the plants, anything crafty (she had beautiful handwriting and loved to doodle and draw) and cooking to feed her family, friends, and neighbors. She was part of a bowling league with her sisters. She loved to travel with friends and family, especially camping trips and many of the regional amusement parks. Shirley loved dogs and kids and they loved her back even more. She can be remembered most for her giving spirit, love of shopping, and not knowing a stranger. The family would like to extend their sincerest thanks to Heart-to-Heart Hospice and the nursing staff at Beacon Hospital, especially her nurse on the 3rd Floor, Shanda. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution can be made to the Foodbank of Northern Indiana, 722 Chapin Street, South Bend, IN 46601 in her memory.A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, November 13th, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at The Armory, 727 S. Eddy Street, South Bend, IN 46615. St. Joseph Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
