Family states he was originally from New Jersey, but nobody knows for sure, since he was just a brief blurb in Lulu May's life. She remarried to Milo Meloy in Elkhart County in 1918. Lulu was born in 1888, so I would assume Fred Bender to be somewhat of the same age.
