She was born October 9, 1914, in Wakarusa, to the late Fred and Lulu (Nusbaum) Bender. She attended Goshen High School. On June 2, 1936, she married Lewis W. Buhrt in Goshen. He died May 24, 1997. She was a member of the West Goshen Church of the Brethren. Surviving is a daughter: Karen S. Buhrt of Goshen, three grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and a half-sister: Myrna (Dean) Rule of Kokomo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis W. Buhrt, a son, Richard Buhrt and a sister, Betty Spencer.
