MISHAWAKA - Dr. Frank A. Portolese, 85, of Mishawaka, died at 2:50 p.m. Saturday, May 24th at Sprenger Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Mishawaka. Dr. Portolese was born November 23, 1928 in Mishawaka to the late Michael and Angeline (Mittiga) Portolese. Also preceding him in death were three brothers, Joseph, Ross and Don Portolese; two sisters, Margaret Perkins and Mary Portolese; a granddaughter, Amy Nicole Singleton; and a sister-in-law, Mary Rose Portolese. On May 30, 1951, Frank married Catherine A. Megan at Holy Cross Catholic Church in South Bend. She survives along with three daughters, Deborah (Dave) Singleton of Osceola, Cheryl (Jeff) White of Granger, and Kimberly (Robert) Weber of Osceola; one son, Greg (Kathy) Portolese of South Bend; seven grandchildren: Stacey (Rob) Richez, Austin and Stephanie Portolese, J. Andrew (Rachel) White and Tiffany White, Marie (Collin) Green and Benjamin (Allison) Weber; six great grandchildren: Knolan, Kaden, Cali, Caleb and Nevaeh White and Aaron Richez; and two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth and Shirley Portolese, both of Mishawaka Frank was self-employed as a dentist, Dr. Frank Portolese Dentist, D.D.S. in Mishawaka for 42 years, retiring in 2000. Frank was a graduate of Mishawaka High School. He was also a graduate of Indiana University and Indiana University Dental School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. He was also a charter member of Queen of Peace Church. Frank was also a member of the American Dental Association, Indiana Dental Association, North Central Dental Association, St. Joseph County Dental Society, Mishawaka Dental Society, the South Bend Elks Lodge, VFW and the Di Loretto Society. Visitation for Frank will be Tuesday, May 27th from 4 to 8 at the Hahn Funeral Home 505 W. 8th St. Mishawaka where there will be a Vigil Service at 5 p.m. Friends may also call one hour prior to the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Mishawaka. The Rev. John Eze will officiate and entombment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.
