Source Brother Peter Letter 5-17-1943
Father ran away from Germany during the Franco Prussian War, was a short time in Bronson Mi cutting down trees in the forest but moved to South Bend. In 1868 he sent for Mother and worked on the NYC RR laying tracks for .75 cents per day. Finally he worked for Oliver Plow until his death.

(1) Letter from Michael Hosinski (Brother Peter, C.S.C.) to Mrs. T. J. Hosinski of South Pasadena, California from Community House - Notre Dame, dated 5-17-43: "Father - Francis HosinskiÅ’born 1836 - died 1918Å’buried in Cedar Grove Cemetery near Notre Dame, South Bend, Ind. Father ran away from Germany during the Franco-Prussian war, Bismark's time; was a short time in Breman, Mich. Cutting down trees in the forests but moved to South Bend, Ind. In 1868 he sent for mother that year and worked on the New York Central tracks for .75 cents a day - finally he worked for Oliver Plow Company practically until his death. Father brought Mother and his Mother also 3 brothers and 2 sisters to the U.S.A. at different times from 1866 as he came that year. Father was as fine a Catholic, Pole and honest U.S. citizen as I have ever known. He died when I was in Singapore, Malay on my way to India." Letter in possession of Mary L. Rader.
(2) Letter from Michael Hosinski (Brother Peter, C.S.C.) to Mrs. T. J. Hosinski of South Pasadena, California from Community House - Notre Dame, Indiana, dated June 14-th, 1943: "My Father came in some kind of a sail boat, he told me it took him six and a half weeks to cross the Atlantic, you may be sure it was not a pleasure boat and the hardship he passed I can imagine." (3) 2 August 2001 e-mail from John Kovach in St. Joseph County Library Local History Department to Mary L. Rader with birthdate of 29 September 1834 and wedding date of 28 June 1867 for Francis Hosinski. No documentation included
