Carol N. (Coughlin) Drzewiecki
March 20, 1937 - Oct. 2, 2011

SOUTH BEND - Carol N. Coughlin Drzewiecki, 74, residing in South Bend, passed away on October 2, 2011, at Hospice House, South Bend. She was born in Mishawaka on March 20th, 1937, to the late Charles Coughlin and Nancy (Toney) Coughlin, and was a stepdaughter of John DeWispelaere Carol graduated from New Carlisle High School in 1954 and attended business school in South Bend. She was a lifelong resident of South Bend. Carol was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in South Bend. On April 7th, 1956, in South Bend, she married Richard Drzewiecki. Carol is survived by her husband and four children, Rick (Lynn) of South Bend, Julie Ann Davis (Rick) of Jackson, MS, Cheryl "Che" Warner (Martin) of Buchanan, Ml, and Gary (Shirley) of Bristol, IN; and seven grandchildren, Nicholas Drzewiecki, Paige Drzewiecki, Brooke Rosenbaum (Paul), Andrew Warner, Scott Warner, Stephanie Davis, Jason Davis; and two step-grandchildren, Carrie Howard and Robbie Howard. Carol was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren, Shana, Stella and Pauly Rosenbaum, Brandon Howard, Elliana Tiofrio, and Wesley and Corey Howard. Also surviving are three brothers, Daniel Coughlin (Shirley, deceased) of Wolcottville, IN, James Coughlin (Pat) of Kalamazoo, Ml, Michael Coughlin (Ann) of Granger, IN; and one sister, Nancy Coughlin Benjamin (Ronald) of South Bend. Carol retired from the University of Note Dame in December 1998. Carol had a beautiful spirit and was loved by all of her family. She was loving, courageous and humble, and lived her life with a quiet fortitude. Carol loved life and lived it to the fullest. She was very kind to everyone and greatly appreciated every small kindness extended to her. Carol will be remembered as a smart lady who loved history, politics, gardening, genealogy and playing cards. She was an avid reader and talented writer and a loyal Notre Dame football fan. Carol will be remembered by her children as a very loving, nurturing, and dedicated mother who made many sacrifices for them. Carol's children never left home in the morning without a hot breakfast. Visitation with Carol's family and friends will be held at Hanley and Sons Funeral Home in South Bend on Wednesday, October 5, 2011, from 4 until 8:30 with a Rosary at 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 6, 2011. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. The family would like to thank the wonderful nursing staff on Seven South at Memorial Hospital and would especially like Shelby to know that she has a special place in their hearts. The family would also like to thank the angels at Hospice House who cared so lovingly for Carol in her last days. The HANLEY & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home handled arrangement and extends its deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the Drzewiecki family.
