SOUTH BEND - Richard F. Drzewiecki, 75, passed away Saturday, October 19, 2013, at Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. Richard was born on February 13, 1938, in South Bend, IN, to the late Francis J. and Aurelia H. (Wolter) Drzewiecki, and was a lifetime resident of South Bend. On April 7, 1956, in South Bend, IN, he married Carol N. Coughlin, who preceded him in death on October 2, 2011. Richard retired in 1999 from Raco Corp. after 40 years of service as a Tool & Die Maker. Richard is survived by two daughters, Julie Ann (Rick) Davis of Brandon, MS, Cheryl (Marty) Warner of Buchanan, MI; two sons, Richard J. (Lynn) Drzewiecki of South Bend, IN, Gary F. (Shirley) Drzewiecki of Bristol, IN; two sisters, Marge (Elmer) Boocher of South Bend, IN, Debbie (Frank) Farkas of Indianapolis, IN; one brother, Paul T. (Beth) Drzewiecki of Port Orchard, WA; eight grandchildren, Brooke Rosenbaum, Nick Drzewiecki, Andy Warner, Paige Gonzales, Scott Warner, Stephanie Davis, Jason Davis, and Brandon Howard; and six great-grandchildren, Shana, Stella, Paul, Elliana, Andre and Waylon. The English translation of Drzewiecki is "Woodsman" and that he was. Richard was the ultimate outdoorsman. He loved to hunt and spent a great deal of time in the woods, which he treated with respect and taught his children to do so as well. Richard was also an avid fisherman, spending many hours on the water catching his limit. He enjoyed gardening, dancing, and playing cards. Richard also enjoyed spending time with his friends at American Legion Post 284, of which he was a member. Friends and family may visit on Wednesday, October 23rd, from 2:00 to 8:00 PM at Hanley and Sons Funeral Home, located at West Ireland Road/State Road 23, South Bend. A Rosary will be said at 6:00 PM during the visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, October 24th, in Holy Family Church, South Bend, at 11:00 AM, with Rev./Fr. Chuck Herman officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. The family would like to thank Dr. Bilal Ansari and his staff for the loving care they gave to our father over the past 6 1/2 years, as well as the outstanding staff on 10 South at Memorial Hospital. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637. The HANLEY & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home handled arrangements and extends its deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the Drzewiecki family.
