Extract from Tape Recording Jean Slisz
It would appear that Cora's parents did not approve of educating daughters in the family. Cora attended Liddy Middleton School in Madison IN for a while but for the most part learned to read and write from her brothers at home . Cora got good grades in art and the genes appear to have passed to her daughter Jean. Cora loved to play baseball and could always be found with a bat in her hands, she appears to have been a Tomboy in her early years. When she was sixthteen her father withdrew her from school. In retailation Cora ran away from home " I lived with a neighbor up on the hill" and eventually met her husband Ed Slisz at the Conservation Core in Clifty Falls, IN. Cora and Ed were married when she was 17 in the church at Madison In. In Cora's words "He was good to me".... Cora had her first child at the age of 18 and her last at 38.

Mrs Thelma Podemski, 38 of 434 S Harris was relaesed from St.Joseph Hospital this week after undergoing her 11th C-Section since 1935.
Ten of the children born by C-Section are living. Physicians said they could recall only one similar case on record, a women in Rhode Island
Mrs Podemski is the wife of Joseph Jackson Podemski, 54, a farmer. He is her second husband.
As Mrs. Edward Slisz she had seven children born between 9-21-1935 and 12-14-1942. Mrs. Podemski and her first husband were divorced and the children were placed in the custody of the welfare department.
Doctors said the C-Section was indicated in the first birth because the pelvis was smalland because the expectant mother had been in labor for three days. When this condition occurs the operation is indicated for all succeeding births.
