Mary N. Maenhout, 88, of Mayflower Road, South Bend, Ind., died at 8:05 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29., in the Healthwin Specialized Care Facility. She was born on Sept. 28, 1909, in Mecca, Ind., to Fred O. and Cora (Seybold) Thomas. She had lived in the South Bend area since 1982, coming from Rockville, Ind.
She was a former employee of Ball Band and retired from Raco. On Sept. 29, 1928, in Mishawaka, Ind., as Mary Thomas, she married Noel E. Maenhout, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Maenhout was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Julie Maenhout, who died in 1975; a son-in-law, John Jankowski, who died in 1996; and by five brothers, Joe, Clifford, Jesse, Chester and Clay Thomas. She is survived by two daughters, Constance Bonnie Jankowski of South Bend and Carole (Joseph) DiSalvo of Downers Grove, III.; two sons, Noel (Mary Ellen) Maenhout of South Bend and Dennis (Karen) Maenhout of North Liberty, Ind.; 12 grandchildren, Steve (Jean) Maenhout of Aurora, III., David (Tawni) Maenhout of North Liberty, Jennifer (Bob) Rice of South Bend, Glenn (Vikki) Maenhout of Elkhart, Ind.; Denise Sienicki of South Bend, John E. (Judy) Jankowski of Annandale, Va., Kelley Poling of South Bend, Brittany and Shannon DiSalvo, both of Downers Grove, III., and Dennis (Tara) Maenhout, Jr., Erin and Samantha Maenhout, all of North Liberty; 15 great-grandchildren; and by several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Maenhout was a member of the Crumstown Conservation Club, Holy Family Harvest House, and the Farmerette Club.Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today in the St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Road. Services will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
