James L. Bloom , 67, of Lakeville, Ind., passed away suddenly on Friday morning, July 25. Jim was born in Mishawaka, Ind., to Mitchell and Bernice (Brown) Bloom . Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Bernice. He grew up in South Bend, Ind., where he graduated from Riley High School in 1953. At a family wedding, he met Shirley A. Wawrzynczak, and on April 24, 1954, they were united in marriage. They lived in South Bend until moving to Lakeville in 1973. Jim attended several years of tool and die school. He had a strong work ethic and was dedicated to his job of 47 years as a foreman at Raco, retiring in 1998. Jim loved raising beef cattle and was active as a 4-H beef leader. He attended Catholic parishes throughout the area and was a member of the Elks. He enjoyed fishing in Canada and family vacations, and he loved to polka. The past two years, Shirley and Jim wintered in Florida. Most of all, he loved and cared deeply for his family. They include his wife, Shirley; two sons, James B. Bloom of Bremen, Ind., and Mark D. (Chris) Bloom of Lakeville; two daughters, Deborah A. Bloom of Bridgman, Mich., and Susan J. (Larry) Walls of Chapel Hill, Tenn.; a brother, William (Carol) Bloom of Dowagiac, Mich.; a sister, Patricia Shoemaker of South Bend; his father, Mitchell Bloom of South Bend; four grandchildren, Melissa, Larry Jr., Dawn and Alicia Walls.Friends are invited to join Jim's family for a memorial Mass at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, in St. Matthew Cathedral, 1701 Miami St., South Bend. Memorials are suggested to 2nd Wind Support Group, 114 Timberwood Court, Mishawaka, IN 46545. The family is being served by the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, 503 W. Third St., Mishawaka.
