Shirley A. Bloom, 87, of Dandridge, Tennessee, and formerly of Lakeville, passed away at home, surrounded by her family, on Sunday evening, January 16, 2022. Shirley was born January 4, 1935 in Mishawaka to the late Henry and Mary (Golba) Wawrzynczak. She grew up in Mishawaka and South Bend and was a graduate of South Bend Catholic High School. At a family wedding, she met James L. Bloom, and on April 24, 1954, they were united in marriage. They lived in South Bend until moving to Lakeville in 1973. She moved to Tennessee in 2016 to live with her son, Mark, and daughter-in-law, Chris.Shirley was a homemaker and was known as an excellent cook. Her macaroni and cheese was a family favorite. She enjoyed crocheting and was an avid reader. Shirley liked to travel and especially enjoyed camping with her family where she loved sitting around the bonfire. She spent several winters in Florida. Shirley and Jim liked Polka dancing. In Tennessee, she was fond of going for boat rides, golf cart rides and spending time on the deck watching the birds. She was a former member of the Cathedral of St. Matthew in South Bend. Shirley is survived by her three children, James B. Bloom, Susan J. Walls, and Mark D. (Chris) Bloom; her brother, Robert Wawrzynczak; four grandchildren; and several great grandchildren. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Bloom; a daughter, Deborah A. Bloom; and her sister, Deloras Bloom. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at a later date in the Cathedral of St. Matthew, South Bend. Private inurnment will take place in a niche at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. Memorials are suggested to the Cathedral of St. Matthew.
