Mrs. Celeste C. Varda, 76 of 325 S. West, died at 5:30 p.m. Sunday in home following a brief illness. She as born in Norway, Mich. on September 30, 1900 she had lived in Mishawaka since coming from Michigan in 1917. As Celeste Van Driessche was married on June 26, 1923 to Felix Varda in Mishawaka. He survives along with four daughters, Mrs. Charlotte Stockbridge of Granger, Mrs. Mary Webber of Vandalia, Mrs. Norma Spychalski of Mishawaka and Mrs. Catherine Bashore of Dowagiac; six sons Roy of Wyckoff, N.J., Ernest of Greenbelt, Md., James of Osceola, Lawrence of South Bend, Lester of Niles and Joseph of Mackinaw, Ill.; 38 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two sisters Mrs. Margaret Sobieralski and Mrs. Louise Hostetler, both of Mishawaka, and a brother Joseph Van Driessche, Mishawaka. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the DeVos Funeral Chapel (8th Street entrance). Mrs. Varda was a member of St. Bavo's Church and its Rosary Society and the 3rd Order of St. Francis. Memorial contributions may be made to Sister Anne Fox's special education class at St. Bavo's School, and flowers will be accepted.
