Jerome “Jeff” Frederick Lape, Jr., 69, residing in Mishawaka, passed away Monday, April 18, 2016 in his home. He was born October 16, 1946 in Detroit, MI to Jerome Sr. and Sally (Smith) Lape. He lived the first 20 years of his life in Detroit, MI before moving to Rockford, IL for the next 40 years, and then finally to Mishawaka for the last eight years. Jeff was preceded in death by his mother, Sally Lape; and one brother, James Lape. He is survived by his father, Jerome Lape, Sr. of South Bend; and one brother, Doug Lape, also of South Bend. Jeff earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in History from University of Northern Illinois. He worked for Kmart Corporation for 35 years before retiring as department manager. He was a member of St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Mishawaka. Jeff was an avid reader and loved sports, especially college and pro football, auto racing and Notre Dame. Funeral services for Jeff will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, April 21, 2016 in the Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend. Graveside services and burial will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm in the funeral home prior to services.
