Jerome F. Lape Sr., 104 years old, passed away on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at Sanctuary at St. Paul’s in South Bend, IN. He was born on December 28, 1917 in Saint Paul, MN, to John and Regina (Hentges) Lape, both of whom preceded him in death. On December 1, 1945 in Detroit, MI, Jerome married the former Sally S. Smith. She preceded him in death on May 28, 2006, after sixty years of marriage. Jerome is survived by his son, Douglas Lape of South Bend, IN. In addition to his parents and his wife, Jerome was preceded in death by two sons, James Lape and Jerome F. “Jeff” Lape, Jr., as well as two brothers, Cyril Lape and Austin Lape. Jerome was a senior sales representative for 3M Corporation, retiring as a top salesperson after 45 years of service to the company. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in South Bend. Jerome was a car enthusiast as well as a fire buff, both locally and nationally. In his quieter moments, he enjoyed playing solitaire and sharing dinner with friends. Jerome was also an Elks Lodge member. Funeral services for Jerome will be held 11:00am on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at Palmer Funeral Home-Welsheimer North Chapel, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN. Rev. Geoff Mooney, C.S.C., will officiate. Graveside service and burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger, IN, where Jerome will be laid to rest next to his wife, Sally. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00-11:00am on Thursday at the funeral home prior to the service. Contributions in memory of Jerome may be donated to Christ the King Catholic Church, 52473 State Road 933, South Bend, IN 46637.
