SOUTH BEND - Lorraine Ellen Summersgill, 83, of South Bend, died following an illness at 10:54 p.m. Monday, January 26, 2009, in Your Home Assisted Living. Lorraine was born January 5, 1926, in New Carlisle, IN, to the late Lee and Blanche (Schall) Dreibelbis, and was a lifetime area resident. On December 28, 1941, in South Bend, as Lorraine Dreibelbis, she married Herbert Luther Summersgill, who preceded her in death on April 19, 1982. She was also preceded in death by a son, Dennis A. Summersgill; grandson, Keith Summersgill; a sister, Nadine Akemon; a niece, Sheila Eaton; and a nephew, Dr. William J. Eaton. She is survived by a son, Herbert L. Summersgill of South Bend; two grandchildren, Daniel (Teri) Summersgill of Mishawaka, IN, and Connie (Michael) Kettlehut of South Bend; four great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Brandon Summersgill, Douglas and Kristy Kettlehut; a great-great-grandson, Brayden Summersgill; and two sisters, Virginia Eaton of Colorado Springs, CO, and Anadell Deranek of Granger, IN. Mrs. Summersgill retired as a hairdresser. She was a member of Community Brethren Church, Mishawaka, and loved to spend time in her garden cultivating and enjoying her flowers.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today, January 29th, in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, with Rev. Gene Eckerley of Community Brethren Church officiating. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger.
