SOUTH BEND - John R. Nemeth, 79, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away at 2:55 a.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2014, in Silverbrook Manor, Niles, Michigan. John was born on July 1, 1934, in South Bend, to John L. and Vera H. (Walkowski) Nemeth, and was a lifelong resident. He had been employed with A.M. General for 32 years. On January 4, 1958, in St. Stanislaus Church, he married Vala L. Frank, who preceded him in death on December 6, 1990. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Ronald, Michael, and an infant brother, Ralph. John is survived by his daughter, Lynn (Bobby) Smith of Niles, Michigan; his son, Jeffery (Susan) Nemeth of South Bend, Indiana; five grandchildren, Kevin M. Nemeth, Andrew J. Nemeth, Ryan S. Nemeth, Destiney N. Smith and Daniel R. Smith. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 20, 2014, in St. Patrick Church. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:00 until 10:00 a.m. in the church. John was a 1952 graduate of South Bend Central High School. He was a United States Army veteran serving for two years as an Army medic. John was a professional musician and played the accordian in "The 3 Notes" band.
