Phillip Christian Steinhofer, 59 years old, passed away on Monday, March 21, 2022 at his residence in Richardson, TX. Phillip was born October 16, 1962 in South Bend to Martin and Henrietta (Staszewski) Steinhofer. Phillip is survived by his wife, Lydia, his mother, Henrietta Steinhofer; sister, Linda (Dan) Lawecki; brothers, Martin K. (Clodine) Steinhofer, Patrick (Susan) Steinhofer - who is his twin; nephews, Kyle (Denise) Jakubowicz, Matthew (Melissa) Jakubowicz, Taylor (Muffi) Steinhofer; niece, Ashley Steinhofer; great-nephews, Connor & Mason Jakubowicz; and his Special Aunt, Geri Rothballer. Phillip is preceded in death by his father, Martin. Phillip graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He then used his degree to become an embedded engineer and a defense contractor. He loved being a part of the process for defending his nation. Phillip helped with the firmware for the land base portion of communications through satellites. He was a part of the IEEE - Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, as well as many trade groups for his profession. Phillip was a peaceful and compassionate man who focused on others. He was a major supporter of animal rescue groups - constantly taking care of and feeding stray or abandoned animals. He would even plant food in his garden for animals in the area. He also loved Lydia and his animals dearly - Dagen and Emma Claire (his dogs), Ousmaine (his Siamese cat), and Eliott, a rabbit. Phillip loved to cook. He was obsessed with perfecting his mothers’ recipes. Phillip also loved going to breakfast every morning with his “breakfast club”. Above all, Phillip loved his family dearly. Friends may visit with the family from 3:00pm-6:00pm on Sunday, April 3, 2022 at St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S Mayflower Rd, South Bend. A Rosary will be prayed at 3:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Monday, April 4, 2022 at St. Jude Catholic Church, 19704 Johnson Road, South Bend, IN 46614. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in honor of Phillip Christian Steinhofer to Pet Refuge, 4626 S. Burnett Dr., South Bend, IN 46614.
