SOUTH BEND - Martin A. Steinhofer, 85, passed away at 9:30 am Monday, February 4, 2013, in his residence surrounded by his family. Martin was born September 14, 1927, in South Bend, to the late Christian and Theresa (Pusch) Steinhofer. On October 21, 1950, in South Bend, Martin married Henrietta (Staszewski) Steinhofer, who survives along with his daughter, Linda K. (Dan) Lawecki of South Bend; and sons, Martin K. (Clodine) Steinhofer of Geneseo, IL, Patrick J. (Tamara) Steinhofer of Appleton, WI, and Phillip C. (Lydia) Steinhofer of Richardson, TX; grandsons, Kyle (Denise) Jakubowicz of South Bend, Matthew Jakubowicz (Melissa DeSmet) of East Moline, IL, and Taylor Steinhofer of Appleton, WI; granddaughter, Ashley Steinhofer of Appleton, WI; great-grandson, Mason Jakubowicz of South Bend; and brother, Chris Steinhofer of Granite Bay, CA. Martin retired in 1982 from the Bendix Corporation after 37 years of service, and he was a bus driver for Stanley Clark School and Marian High School. Martin was a parishioner of St. Jude Catholic Church, and was a member of the Calvert Rod and Gun Club and The German Club. He enjoyed building bird houses/feeders and fishing. He also took great pride in working in his yard. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan with his wife, Henrietta. Most of all, Martin enjoyed visits and spending time with his family. Visitation for Martin will be 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm Thursday, February 7, 2013, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4:00 pm. Family and friends may gather at 10:00 am in St. Jude Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, February 8, 2013. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Funeral Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Catholic Church Building Fund, 19704 Johnson Road, South Bend, Indiana 46614. Condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.
