Dorothy Joanna (Naujoks) Havlik was born in Dayton, Ohio, on Nov. 29, 1927. Her parents, William and Bertha, both emigrated to the United States from Germany. She graduated from Ohio State University in 1949 with a BA in German and graduated from the University of Illinois in 1951 with a MS in Library Science. While in high school she worked at the Mound Facility in Miamisburg, Ohio, where early atomic weapons were developed. She married Robert Havlik, whom she met at the University of Illinois and worked as a librarian until the children came along. She continued to volunteer in school libraries and was active at Westminster Presbyterian Church in South Bend and in the Women’s Associations of the Presbyterian Church. She also served as president of the Ladies of Notre Dame and St. Mary’s College. Dorothy, known as Dottie, was married to Robert Havlik for 64 years when he passed away in 2016. She is survived by two children, Christopher, of Phoenix, Arizona, and Carol, of Mishawaka, Indiana. She passed along her love of reading, learning and the arts to her children. Services will be held Tuesday, June 28, 2022, 2 p.m., at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, 375 W Cleveland Rd, Granger, IN 46530, at the corner of Cleveland and Grape roads.
