Mary Ann Hosinski
Oct. 14, 1920 - April 27, 2016
SOUTH BEND - Mary Hosinski, 95, of South Bend, passed away peacefully in her sleep, Wednesday, April 27, 2016. Born and raised in South Bend to George and Stella Pendzinski, Mary wed her eternal love, John N. Hosinski, on January 25, 1947.Throughout his stations during World War II, they kept in vigilant contact, and were married upon his return. She is survived by her daughters, Patricia (Chris) Thornton of South Bend, Mary Ann (Henry) Chandler of Granger, IN, and Susan (Kevin) Wamsley of Hamilton, VA; along with her four grandchildren, James (Marisha) Schmidt of South Bend, Matthew Chandler of San Francisco, CA, Nicholas Schmidt of Denver, CO, and Allison (Scott) Dietrich of Chicago, IL. In addition to her daughters and grandchildren, Mary is survived by her first great-grandchild, Charlotte Jean Dietrich, who was born at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2016. To have held Charlotte would have been the ribbon that helped tie the beautiful bow of Mary's life. She is also survived by her many nieces and nephews whom she loved so dearly. As a giving and steadfast soul, Mary always held her entire family and friends close to her heart. Providing a restful and giving environment was continually part of her life's goal. An ardent bingo player and lifelong member of the Rosary Altar Society at Holy Cross Parish, Mary had every ability to let loose with her quick wit and sense of humor, which was incredibly enjoyable to all she encountered. And in heaven, she is now reunited with her sisters and best friends, Lottie and Val, along with her seven other wonderful siblings. There, she will also be thankfully greeted again by her husband John (most likely with a terrible knock-knock joke of some kind). After suffering her first stroke in 2004, Mary moved in with her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Chris Thornton, until her passing. And it was there that she was introduced to the family dog, Kira, who became her constant companion during EVERY meal. The family would like to thank Betty, who graciously helped provide in-home care for Mary for the past 12 years. No services will be held, as Mary's wishes of being cremated have been fulfilled. However, memorial contributions may be made in Mary's name to the St. Joseph High School's Building Fund, 453 N. Notre Dame Ave., South Bend, IN 46617. And online condolences may be shared through Kaniewski Funeral Home, by visiting: www.kaniewski.com. Published in South Bend Tribune on May 1, 2016
