=================
Mary Palfi, daughter of Jozsef & Terez Nyug Palfi, was baptised June 26, 1883 in Bánokszentgyörgy, Zala, Hungary. (Hungary, Catholic Church Records, familysearch.org)
On May 18, 1907, Rev. M. Biro married John Pecsi and Mary Palfi at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, South Bend, Indiana. The church record and the marriage application records filed with the county both say that John Pesci was born Jan. 16, 1880 in Hungary to Joseph & Rosalia Szuts Pecsi and that Mary was born June 26, 1883 in Hungary to Joseph & Teresa Nyug Palfi. The marriage application records also say that John was a laborer in South Bend, that Mary was working at Notre Dame, Indiana, and that it was the first marriage for both of them. (Chris Kovach, transcriber, marriage records of St. Stephen's Catholic Church, in "Hungarian Immigrant Collection" St. Joseph Co., INGenWeb; and images of original St. Joseph Co., Indiana, marriage and marriage application records, familysearch.org) The 1910-1920 federal census records of South Bend, Indiana, indicate that John Pecsi, a laborer/painter at a wagon works, and his wife Mary immigrated in 1904. In the 1930 census, John Pecsi is listed as a widower. The 1910-1930 census records (and for Mary, death records) indicate that their children included (in birth order): Joseph, Mary who died young , Rose, Elizabeth, Theresa, Gizella, John, Louis, and Steve.
According to the Zahoran Funeral Records, Mary Pesci, age 46 yr, was born on 6/26/1883, died on 12/25/1929, and was buried at Cedar Grove Cemetery; and John Pesci, born Feb. (sic) 14, 1880, died Apr. 22, 1947, and was buried at Cedar Grove Cemetery. (Chris Kovach, transcriber, "Hungarian Immigrant Collection" St. Joseph Co., INGenWeb) Mary's Indiana death certificate adds her place of death.
