SOUTH BEND - Mary Ann (Bartoszewicz) Katz of South Bend, Indiana passed away peacefully at Healthwin Hospital surrounded by her loving family, following a brief illness. Mary Ann was born in South Bend, Indiana on Oct. 22, 1943 to the late Edward and Elizabeth (Bladecki) Bartoszewicz. She was a loving, dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She attended New Carlisle High School in New Carlisle, Indiana and graduated in 1962. She is survived by her loving husband, Dr. Samuel Katz, son, Michael Katz (Michael Webber, his life partner), daughter, Julie Katz (Tommy Johnson, fianc‚), both of South Bend, IN, and grandchildren, Tanner, Gabrielle and Marisa Tafelski of South Bend, IN. Her survivors also include stepchildren, David, Jay and Cindy Katz. Mary Ann is also survived by her siblings, Veronica Couts, Eugene Bartoszewicz (Jane Clark), Cynthia (Richard) Mahnesmith, Kenneth (Lisa) Bartoszewicz, Patrick (Joni) Bartoszewicz, Julie Thompson, Connie Bartoszewicz, as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to being preceded in death by her parents, she was also preceded in death by her in-laws, Morris and Gertrude Katz; and brothers, Norbert (Luann), Gilbert, Francis Bartoszewicz and brother in-law, Michael Couts. Mary Ann worked side by side with her husband for 30 years in their optometry practice. Mary Ann was extremely dedicated to serving the Sinai Synagogue, where she acted in many capacities including president of the Synagogue and Sinai Sisterhood. She was involved in a variety of activities including fundraising, catering, welcoming new members and performed in other roles, which she thoroughly enjoyed. Nothing brought Mary Ann more joy than her husband, children and grandchildren. Her love and support for them knew no boundaries and she delighted and savored in their many accomplishments. Those wishing to make memorial contributions in her memory may do so to Sinai Synagogue, Sinai Sisterhood or a charity of the donor's choice . The family would like to thank Healthwin Specialized Care and Cleveland Clinic for all their care and support. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Sinai Synagogue, 1102 E. LaSalle Ave., South Bend, IN 46617, with burial following at Hebrew Orthodox Cemetery, Mishawaka, IN. McGann Hay, Forest G. Hay Funeral Home is handling arrangements for the family.
