SOUTH BEND - John J. Cholaj, 91, passed away on Saturday, June 5, in Our Lady of Peace Hospital, Mishawaka. Survivors include his wife, Georgianna (Wentland); three children, Jacquelyn Boynton, Gwendolyn (James) Hodge and Ronald (Alice) Cholaj; and four sisters, Bertha Radzikowski, Veronica (Marion) Bohacz, Elizabeth Wallace and Phyllis (Tony) Rulli. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, in St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be prayed at 3 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, in Holy Cross Catholic Church.

SOUTH BEND - John J. Cholaj, 91, passed away at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 5th, in Our Lady of Peace Hospital, Mishawaka. John was born on February 16, 1919, in Bronson, MI, to the late Alexander and Helen (Herman) Cholaj. On September 11, 1948, he married Georgianna (Wentland). She survives along with their three children, Jacquelyn Boynton of South Bend, Gwendolyn (James) Hodge of Phoenix, AZ, and Ronald (Alice) Cholaj of Flowery Branch, GA; four grandchildren, Ryan Hodge of South Bend, Bethany Hodge of Williamsburg, VA, Brian (Hana) Boynton of Marietta, GA, and Chris Boynton of Mishawaka; two great-grandchildren, Lauren Hodge and Noah Boynton; four sisters, Bertha Radzikowski of South Bend, Veronica (Marion) Bohacz of Bronson, MI, Elizabeth Wallace of FL and Phyllis (Tony) Rulli of South Bend. He was preceded in death by two brothers, six sisters, and by his son-in-law, Frederick Boynton. John was a member of Knights of Columbus #553 and UAW Local 5. He was a parishioner at Holy Cross Catholic Church. He honorably served his country in the United States Army during WW II. John worked for the Studebaker Corp. and then retired from AM General. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Monday, June 14, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be prayed at 3 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 15, in Holy Cross Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Sister Maura Brannick, CSC, Health Center, 326 Chapin St., South Bend, IN 46601 For those who are unable to attend the funeral Mass, condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.
