August J. Ewald, 78, of Main Street in Mishawaka, died at 10:30 p.m. Thursday, November 18th, in his residence. He was born in South Bend on September 1, 1926, to Sylvester & Lottie (Sciba) Ewald. August married the former Anna M. Kedik in St. Adalbert Catholic Church in South Bend on May 29, 1948. He is survived by Anna, his wife of fifty-six years; a son, Gary (Diane) Ewald of Texas; and five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mr. Ewald was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Daniel Ewald; and a daughter, Mary Ann Czajkowski, who died on August 11, 2004. He retired as a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service after thirty years of service. He was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church. August was an avid bowler. A Mass of Christian Burial was held in St. Monica Catholic Church at 10 a.m., Monday. Burial followed in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
