SOUTH BEND - South Bend - Hattie “Harriet” I. Steinbrunner, 98, passed away on Sunday, December 31, 2017 in Sanctuary of St. Paul's Retirement Facility. Hattie was born May 8, 1919 in South Bend, to the late Frank and Mary (Szymczak) Mrozinski. On February 14, 1938, Hattie married Arthur A. Steinbrunner in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church; he preceded her in death on October 23, 1998. Hattie was also preceded in death by a son, David Steinbrunner; daughter-in-law, Carol (Sailer) Steinbrunner; sisters, Hilda, Irene, and Alice; brothers, John, Casimer, Leonard, and Frank, Jr. Survivors of Hattie include her children, Elizabeth “Betty” (Ron) Hosinski of South Bend, Patricia (Jim) Thomas of Mc Allen, TX, Marilyn (John) Sailer of McAllen, TX; 13 grandchildren; 21 great- grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren. Hattie was a World War II wife and mother who cared for her children while her husband was in foreign lands, as a civilian specialist, aiding the defensive efforts of our country. Hattie's entire adult life was devoted to her husband, her children, and her grandchildren. She thought her grandchildren were the best in the world, and deeply loved them all. Her special Christmas cookie recipes are still a favorite with the family to this day. Hattie was a dedicated Christian lady, great American, and her entire family will miss her dearly. Visitation for Hattie will be 9:00 am to 10:00 am, Thursday, January 4, 2018 in Sanctuary of St. Paul's Retirement Facility, 3602 S. Ironwood Dr., South Bend, Indiana 46614 with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00 am in St. Paul's Chapel. Entombment will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery.
