SOUTH BEND - Theresa M. Mackowiak, 87, passed away Sunday, March 19, 2017 at Sprenger Health Care in Mishawaka. Theresa was born September 28, 1929 in South Bend, to the late Martin and Mary (Wrobel) Szklarek. On November 7, 1959, Theresa married her loving husband Chester; he preceded her in death on August 19, 2015. Survivors of Theresa include her children, Daniel (Christina) Mackowiak of Elkhart, Catherine (Randy) Kerr of South Bend, and David Mackowiak; grandchildren, David Jr., Aaron, Mary, Matthew, Benjamin, Julie, Stephen and Brady; and 4 great-grandchildren. Theresa was a volunteer with St. Joseph Hospital in South Bend for many years. She was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church. Theresa was an avid reader of crime and mystery novels. She enjoyed listening to music, especially classical. She enjoyed cookies, baking, sewing and traveling. Most of all, Theresa loved her family and her home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am, Thursday, March 23, 2017 in Holy Family Catholic Church with a visitation from 9:00am to 11:00am in the church. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Heartland Hospice Memorial Fund, 230 W. Catalpa, Mishawaka, IN, 46545.
