SOUTH BEND - Chester S. Mackowiak, 89, passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2015 in his home. Chester was born December 4, 1925 in South Bend to the late Peter and Helen (Prusinski) Mackowiak. Chester is also preceded in death by his brother, Leo Mackowiak On November 7, 1959 in St. Adalbert Catholic Church Chester married his loving wife of 55 years, Theresa (Szklarek) Mackowiak, who survives, along with their children, David Mackowiak, Daniel (Christina) Mackowiak, and Catherine (Randall) Kerr all of South Bend; grandchildren, David Jr., Aaron, Mary, Matthew, and Benjamin; and a sister, Loretta Waletzko. Chester retired as a Computer Manager at First Source Bank after 40 years. He was a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church. He was a long time member of Legion of Mary. Chester was a big fan of the Chicago White Sox and Notre Dame Football. He enjoyed gardening, and was an avid reader. Most of all, Chester enjoyed spending time at home with his family, especially his grandchildren. Visitation for Chester will be 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm, Sunday, August 23, 2015 in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. where a Rosary will be prayed at 3:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Monday, August 24, 2015 in Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church, 56405 Mayflower Rd., South Bend, IN 46619.
