Jean Van Belleghem, 90 of New Carlisle, IN, formerly of South Bend, passed away at 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 8, 2011, in her granddaughter's home in New Carlisle, IN. She was born March 29, 1920 in South Bend, IN, as the daughter of the late George and Edith (Whiteman) Erhardt. On February 10, 1938 she married John E. Zeitler and they enjoyed 43 years of marriage. He preceded her in death in 1981. Then on February 11, 1983 Jean married Charles A. Van Belleghem, who died in March 1996. Surviving are her son, John Zeitler, Jr. of Niles, MI, daughter, Ginger Butchko of Mishawaka, IN; three sisters, Betty (Arthur) Gember of Three Oaks, MI, Elizabeth McGowan of South Dakota and Caryl Stevens of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; her brother-in-law, Floyd Burton of South Bend; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren. Twin daughters, Joyce McDowell and Jean Talbot; two sisters, Joan Burton and Edith Jordan; and two brothers, Jack Erhardt and George Erhardt all preceded Jean in death. Jean was a member of Eagles Auxiliary #435. She was previously employed at Swanson Plating and also part-time at Ben Franklin's, where she worked many years. Jean was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and previously attended Zion United Church of Christ. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave, South Bend. Graveside services and burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, South Bend, IN. Friends may visit with the family from 4-7 PM Tuesday, March 15th in the funeral home.
