Frederick O. Walters, 85, of Crumstown Road, South Bend IN, passed away at 1:55pm on Thursday, April 22, in St Joseph Care West Nursing Home. He was born on January 11, 1919, in South Bend to Ralph and Ethel (Straub) Walters, who preceded him in death. A brother, Richard Walters and a sister, Hazel Newport are deceased. On May 11, 1946, in South Bend, he married Dorothy Buysse. Surviving Frederick is his wife, Dorothy, daughters, Kathleen (Jim) Peterson of South Bend, Carolyn (Randy) Chasteen of Lawrenceburg IN, Elizabeth (Tim) Hawkins of South Bend and Laura Walters of Manteca CA; sons, David Walters and George (Su) Walters, both of South Bend; 19 grandchildren; three great grandchildren and a sister, Leah Brazo of Niles MI. Frederick retired in 1984, after 50 years of service as superintendent in Sollitt Construction Company. He was a member of the Carpenter's Union #413. Frederick did beautiful woodworking and was an avid reader. He served in the Army as a Master Sergeant during World War II. Visitation will be on Sunday, April 25, from 2 to 8pm in St Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Road. Funeral services will be Monday, April 26, at 11am in the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Society.
