SOUTH BEND - Eugene J. Wentland, 86, passed away on Sunday, May 25, at 3:20 p.m. in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center. Eugene was born on June 4, 1921, to the late Sylvester and Lillian (Kolesiak) Wentland. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Bernard Wentland. On January 1, 1944, in St. Adalbert Catholic Church, he married Phyllis Ciesialka, who survives along with their children, Patricia (Thomas) Bolinger of South Bend and Larry Wentland of Villa Rica, GA; two grandchildren, Brian (Kathy) Bolinger of Walkerton and Brenda Hazinski of South Bend; four great-grandchildren, Sarah Bolinger, Daniel Bolinger, Robert Chodzinski and Amanda Hazinski; a sister, Lucille (Joseph) Dangelo of South Bend; and a brother, Daniel (Rosann) Wentland of Sterling Heights, MI. Eugene worked as a foreman at K-Mart in Cassopolis, MI. He was a member of St. Adalbert Catholic Church, St. Joseph Young Men's Society and American Legion Post 357. He enjoyed Notre Dame football and Cubs baseball. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 29, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, South Bend, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. A funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Friday, May 30, in the funeral home. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend.
